Downloading and Installing ESET Remote Administrator
Download and install the three files below. You will need to enter your ESET-issued username and password to download. You will also be prompted to upload your nod32.lic license file when installing ESET Remote Administrator Server. If you have lost your username/password or license file, they can be automatically resent to your registered email address by completing the Lost License form.

What is a Mirror server?
In order to continually provide the maximum level of protection against the latest threats, all ESET client workstations must check regularly for new program component and virus signature updates. By default, ESET client workstations check for updates on an hourly basis. The client workstations can obtain these updates over the Internet directly from ESET’s update servers, or from a locally managed update source known as a 'Mirror server” (so-named because it stores an identical copy, or “mirror” of the update files that reside on ESET’s update servers).
The Mirror server provides you with the ability to maintain a local copy of virus signature and program component updates on your own network. It helps save bandwidth by centralizing the download and distribution of updates to ESET clients, and also allows you to provide updates to ESET clients which are not directly connected to the Internet.
You may deploy as many Mirror servers as you deem necessary for the efficient distribution of virus signature and program component updates within your environment. The Mirror server can be configured in either of the following two ways:
• As an HTTP server
• As a shared network folder
Distribution of updates via HTTP can be easier to configure and is not limited by the file server license limit, which is a potential limitation of the shared network folder method. This article provides easy-to-follow instructions on how to quickly configure a Mirror server using each of these methods.
Regardless of which method you choose, there are several places within the software which allow you to configure a Mirror server:
-
ESET Remote Administrator Console (ERAC)
-
ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0 or ESET Smart Security client
-
ESET NOD32 Antivirus 2.7 client
Configuring the Mirror using ESET Remote Administrator Console (ERAC)
To configure the Mirror as an internal HTTP Server (recommended), perform these steps:
-
Open ERAC by clicking Start → All Programs → ESET → ESET Remote Administrator Console → ESET Remote Administrator Console.
-
Verify that you are connected to the ESET Remote Administrator Server (File → Connect).
-
Click Tools → Server Options.

-
Click the Updates tab and enter the appropriate ESET-supplied values in the Update username and Update password fields (Click the Set Password... button to enter the password).
-
Select the Create update mirror check box in the middle of the window.
-
Select the Provide update files via internal HTTP server check box.
-
If you wish to use a port other than the default port (2221), enter the value in the HTTP server port check box (the default value is recommended unless you have other applications communicating on this port).

NOTE: With ERA 2.0.107 and later, you can create mirrored files for ESET NOD32 Antivirus 2.x clients. If there are also 2.x clients on your network that will access the Mirror server, select the Create update mirror for NOD32 version 2 products check box.
-
Click the Update now button to display a confirmation dialog box ('This will first apply server options and then fire the event. Continue?') Click Yes.
-
A dialog box will be displayed ('Event fired on the server') Click OK.
To configure the Mirror as a shared network folder, perform these steps:
-
Created a shared folder on a local or network device. This folder must be readable by all users running ESET software, and writeable by the local SYSTEM account. (If the shared folder is located on another computer in the network, it is necessary to specify authentication for accessing that computer. Click here for additional information.)
-
Select the Create update mirror check box in the middle of the Server Options window (Tools → Server Options).
-
Enter the appropriate ESET-supplied values in the Update username and Update password fields (Click the Set Password... button to enter the password).
-
Enter the name of the shared folder (created in step 1) in the format //UNC/PATH

After the Mirror server is created, you must configure client workstations to access it for updates. There are two methods for configuring client workstations to access the Mirror server. The first is to create and push an .xml configuration file from ESET Remote Administrator to client workstations (see sections 3.2 and 5.1 of the ESET Remote Administrator Guide for detailed information). This method is recommended if you have multiple client workstations in your network.
The second method is to manually configure each client workstation to access the Mirror server. This method may be preferred if you only have 4 or 5 client workstations which will be accessing the Mirror server for updates. Click here for step-by-step instructions.
