Win32/Kryptik.JX false positive
KB Solution ID: SOLN2181|Last Revised: November 24, 2009

ESET Smart Security / ESET NOD32 Antivirus detected some Windows files as Win32/Kryptik.JX and quarantined them.

Updating to the latest virus definition database (3920 or higher) should automatically restore the affected files from quarantine.

If the files are not restored from quarantine by using the update procedure above, or if you are using ESET NOD32 Antivirus 2.7, please execute the utility found in the following .zip file to automatically restore incorrectly quarantined files:

Filename:  eset_quar_fix.zip

This utility has no command-line arguments and displays no messages when run, allowing it to be used in login scripts, etc. This utility can be used with ESET NOD32 Antivirus 2.7, and ESET NOD32 Antivirus/ESET Smart Security 3.0 and 4.0.  It has been tested under Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP (x86) and Windows Vista (x86 and x64).

NOTE: Administrator privileges are not required to run this utility, even under Windows Vista.

*As an alternative, you can manually restore incorrectly quarantined files by following the steps below:

ESET Smart Security/ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0/4.0 users:

  1. Open the main program window by clicking the ESET icon next to the system clock or by clicking Start → All Programs → ESET→ ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

  2. Toggle to Advanced mode by clicking in the bottom left corner or by pressing CTRL + M on your keyboard.

  3. From the main program window click Tools → Quarantine.

  4. Mark all files falsely detected as Win32/Kryptik.JX and click the Restore button.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus 2.7 users:

  1. In NOD32 Control Center → NOD32 System Tools → Quarantine mark all files falsely detected as Win32/Kryptik.JX, right-click them and click the Restore option from the context menu.

The restored files will be moved back to their original location.
