How do I configure my ESET security product to detect unwanted or unsafe applications?
KB Solution ID: SOLN2198|Last Revised: November 24, 2009

Your ESET security product can detect potentially unwanted or unsafe applications before they are installed on your computer. When you install your ESET security product, you are prompted to enable or disable detection of Potentially unwanted applications. Detection of Potentially unsafe applications is disabled by default. To change either of these settings after installation, follow the instructions below:

NOTE: Potentially unwanted applications are programs that may not be intentionally malicious, but can negatively affect the performance and reliability of the system or send information to third parties. Potentially unsafe applications, such as keyloggers and password-cracking tools, can have legitimate uses but can also be components of malware.

  1. Open the main program window by clicking the ESET icon  next to the system clock or by clicking Start →All Programs → ESET → ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

  2. Press the F5 key to open the Advanced Setup window.

  3. From the Advanced Setup tree on the left, click Antivirus and antispyware. In the Automatic startup file check section, click Setup....
