New version has been released

A newer version of ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus has been released. We highly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version:

  • Remember: ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus home editions are not suitable for use with ESET server products (such as ESET Remote Administrator).

 

  1. What's included in version 4.2?

    Version 4.2 includes support for Opera 10, Thunderbird 3, new firewall features (ESET Smart Security only), minor fixes and other improvements. Click here to see a full list of changes.
     
  2. Is the upgrade to 4.2 automatic?

    No, unlike your virus signature database (which updates automatically on a regular basis), your ESET security product does not automatically upgrade to the most recently released build. Please uninstall and reinstall your ESET Security Product to upgrade to the latest build.
     
  3. Can I upgrade to 4.2 for free?

    Existing customers with a valid license for ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus are eligible for a free upgrade to the latest version of the same product. Click here for directions on how to upgrade to version 4.2.
     
  4. Why should I upgrade to 4.2?

    Version 4.2 includes new features and minor bug fixes, making it the most compatible and stable release to date. Earlier versions still offer maximum protection, but we encourage customers to upgrade to our latest version for the best possible user experience.
     
  5. Where can I download 4.2?

    Version 4.2 downloads are now available on our download page. Please use your existing license to download the correction version. If you do not know which version you need, click here for information on 32-bit and 64-bit packages. If you have forgotten your username or password, you may retrieve your license information here.
     
  6. Are the same operating systems and configurations that I used in 4.0 compatible with 4.2?

    Yes, all operating systems and configurations that worked with version 4.0 will continue to work with version 4.2. The only exception is Microsoft Windows Vista without Service Packs (for more details please see point 8 below). 
     
  7. Is 4.0 still available for download?

    Yes, you can still download and install version 4.0 ESET security products from our download page, but we recommend you download and install version 4.2 for maximum protection.
     
  8. Why did I receive the error message "Failed to read firewall configuration" after installing version 4.2 in Windows Vista?

    You may encounter this error message when installing ESET Smart Security 4.2 or ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.2 in Windows Vista without Service Packs. Click here for a solution.
