Automatic system startup scan runs slowly or hangs
KB Solution ID: SOLN2475|Last Revised: January 18, 2013Details
By default, your ESET product will scan programs and memory at startup to protect your system from malware that attacks system memory used in the startup process. If your system startup scan is taking an unusually long time to complete, you may have conflicting programs set to run at start up.
Solution
Follow the steps below to edit your automatic system startup file check settings to keep startup scan times low:
- Open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?
- Click Tools and then click Scheduler.

- Select System startup file check from the list and click Edit.
- Click Next four times and then click Finish.

- In the Automatic startup file check window, select When idle from the Scan priority drop-down menu and then click OK.

- Click OK. Your system will now run the startup scan only when the CPU is idle.
If you continue to have unusual delays with your startup scan, please submit a SysInspector log to Customer Care.
