How do I migrate settings from ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server 4.3 and earlier to the latest version?

Issue

  • Export your antispam, blocked senders and approved senders lists for use in a newer version of ESET Mail Security for Microsoft exchange.

Solution

  1. Open ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server by double-clicking the ESET icon  in your Windows notification area.

  1. Click Setup Import and Export Settings

  1. Select Export settings, click ... to select a location where the .xml file will be saved, type a name for your configuration file and then click OK.

  1. Open the export settings xml file that you created in step 3 using a text editor that supports xml (for example, WordPad, Notepad, etc.). Change the third line SECTION ID= to "1000404" so that it appears in the following format:

    <SECTION ID="1000404">

  1. Download the EMSXAntispamSettingsExport tool from the link below. Save EMSX_AntispamSettingsExport.exe to desktop of the Exchange Server that you are upgrading to the latest version of ESET Mail Security.

  2. Run the EMSX_AntispamSettingsExport.exe tool from the Command Prompt using the following command:

    EMSX_AntispamSettingsExport.exe /export

  1. Copy the cfg.xml file created by the EMSX AntispamSettingsExport tool (step 6) to the desktop of the computer on which you are upgrading ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server. For your settings to be replicated in your new installation of ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange server, this file must be in the same directory as the installer file.
     
  2. Download and install the latest version of ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server. Make sure that you import your configuration file (the file that you exported in step 3 and modified in step 4) when installation is complete to restore program settings.
