Correcting Outlook and Outlook Express issues with ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus (3.x)

New version has been released

A newer version of ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus has been released. We highly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version:

  • Remember: ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus home editions are not suitable for use with ESET server products (such as ESET Remote Administrator).

 

If Outlook or Outlook Express loads slower or crashes upon startup after installing ESET Smart Security 3.x or ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.x, please follow the steps below. Begin with solution 1 and only proceed to solution 2 if the issue persists.

Solution 1:

  1. Open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?
     
  2. Press the F5 key to open the Advanced Setup window.
     
  3. From the Advanced Setup tree on the left, click Antivirus and antispyware Email protection POP3 Compatibility and adjust the Compatibility setup to Maximum compatibility.

  4. Click OK to confirm the changes. Reopen your email program and only proceed to solution 2 if the issue persists.


Solution 2:

  1. Open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?
     
  2. Press the F5 key to open the Advanced Setup window.
     
  3. From the Advanced Setup tree on the left, click Miscellaneous Email client integration and deselect the Integrate into Microsoft Outlook and Integrate into Outlook Express/Windows Mail options.

  4. Reopen your email program. If this solution resolves the issue, you likely still have previous antivirus software installed on your computer. Please click here for instructions to remove it.
